Meet Wes

Wes Mullen is a third-generation resident of Connecticut whose family has been transformed by the American promise of opportunity for all.

Wes was raised to believe that, in America, the ability to achieve is not based on where you were born or who your family is; it is based on your own desire to succeed.

Growing up, Wes attended public schools in Madison, Connecticut. During school he worked as a cook and as a landscaper, which allowed him to put himself through college. With the help of student loans, he later went on to graduate from Harvard Law School, and he is now a practicing lawyer.

Wes's grandparents lived in Bloomfield, Connecticut. His grandfather, an Army veteran, worked for many years in Connecticut’s dairy industry. To support their growing family, Wes's grandmother worked as a nurse.

Wes's parents, Donald and Christine Mullen, were among the first generation of the Mullen family to graduate from college. Both of Wes's parents are veterinarians who care for the animals of their community. Higher education allowed them to grow small businesses that form the foundation of the local economy and create jobs.

Wes’s interest in our government and our system of laws, along with his desire to serve the public, led him to a career as an attorney. He has represented businesses struggling to cut costs and retain workers during a difficult economy, and he has witnessed the outrageous costs imposed by senseless government regulation and out-of-control lawsuits. Wes also represents clients who need legal services they cannot afford, including helping victims of domestic violence to keep their children safe.

Wes is married to the love of his life, Lisi Mullen.

Wes is concerned that our elected leaders in Washington are out of touch with the people of eastern Connecticut. In particular, he is appalled by the lack of fiscal responsibility in Congress and the way that it endangers America's future. With the love and support of his wife and family, Wes has taken leave from his career to help the people of eastern Connecticut find a new voice and new representation in U.S. Congress. His brother, Teddy, also left his job working on a farm to help build Wes’s grassroots campaign.

Wes is working to take our district and our country in the dramatic new direction necessary to ensure that future generations benefit from the same opportunities that he has.

Why Wes is Running

Wes is running because he is worried about the path that our leaders have taken.

Facing a difficult economy and unsustainable deficits, our elected officials have pursued sprawling, inefficient government programs that we cannot afford. We need new ideas to strengthen our country and economy while making the tough decisions necessary to prevent irresponsible spending from holding back the next generation of Americans.

The people of eastern Connecticut are fed up. In November 2010 we should elect new representatives to replace the career politicians who have caused the deep problems we face today. With your support, we can win this election.

Wes's Core Beliefs

Wes believes in limited, fiscally responsible government empowered by ordinary citizens.

Wes believes that our Constitution provides us with fundamental freedoms unique in the world. He believes that those freedoms allow our society to prosper through the power of the individual desire to succeed.

Wes believes that we need to preserve our national defense and national strength in order to extend freedom and security at home and abroad.
